Commercial HVAC and Refrigeration Equipment: He’s Sold It, Serviced It, Designed It, and Built It
Most people scoping your mechanical project have only ever seen the equipment on a submittal sheet. Tony McMurdo has sold it across a supply house counter, repaired it in the middle of the night, designed the refrigeration side of it, assembled it on a manufacturing floor, and tested it to confirm it would hold up under load.
He brings more than 20 years of that experience to Campbell’s Cleveland customers as Project Sales Representative, developing HVAC, plumbing, and building controls retrofit and replacement projects across commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities.
Raised in Commercial Refrigeration Service and Installation
Tony grew up in the trade. His father spent nearly 40 years in refrigeration service and installation, and the vocabulary, the tools, and the problem-solving were part of the household long before Tony made it his own profession. That head start shows up in how quickly he reads an unfamiliar system.
Ten Years Selling HVAC and Refrigeration Equipment and Parts
Tony spent close to a decade at Johnstone Supply in inside and outside sales, moving HVAC and refrigeration equipment and parts to contractors across the region. That is where he learned the equipment landscape in depth: which manufacturers do what well, what components actually fail, what carries a long lead time, and how much of a project budget lives in the parts nobody remembers to include.
Seven Years Servicing Commercial HVAC Systems in the Field
As an HVAC service technician at Apollo Heating and Cooling, Tony serviced, maintained, and installed commercial and residential systems, including rooftop units, split systems, and packaged equipment. He specialized in building automation, hydronic heating and cooling, and indoor air quality, and supported service-to-sales by identifying upgrade opportunities and presenting solutions directly to customers.
Designing and Building Data Center Cooling Systems
At KyotoCooling, Tony founded the HVAC department from the ground up. He wrote the procedures governing the design and manufacturing of the refrigeration side of the company’s data hall cooling units, and he performed the build work on the manufacturing floor himself. Alongside engineering, he ran environmental testing to confirm the units would operate correctly and stay stable in the demanding, continuous-load conditions of a live data hall.
This is the rarest thing on Tony’s résumé and the most useful to you. He has been responsible for whether a piece of cooling equipment actually works. Not for selling it, not for installing it, but for designing and proving it. That is a different standard of understanding, and it is the reason his project scopes tend to account for the conditions equipment will really face rather than the conditions on the spec sheet. Most recently, as a Project Sales Specialist at Diamond Waterfronts, Tony managed complex custom B2B builds from concept through completion, carrying scoping, structural detail, schedule, and the client relationship all the way to handoff. What Tony’s Background Means for Your HVAC or Plumbing ProjectAccurate Scoping Before You Get a NumberTony has done the installation work he is now scoping. He knows what a crew will run into once the ceiling is open, which is the difference between a project number that holds and one that grows through change orders after you have already approved the budget. Equipment Selection Grounded in Ten Years Behind the CounterFrom his Johnstone Supply years, Tony knows the equipment landscape across manufacturers: what performs, what fails, what is available, and what will sit on backorder while your building goes without. He specifies around reality, not around whatever is easiest to quote. Data Center, Lab, and Process-Critical DepthTony designed, built, and environmentally tested data hall cooling equipment. If your facility cannot tolerate downtime, whether that is a data center, a laboratory, a process line, or a cold storage operation, he has worked at the standard those environments demand. Projects Planned as Capital DecisionsCampbell does not fix and bill. Tony works with CFOs, building owners, and facility managers to scope and time mechanical projects as planned capital decisions rather than emergency replacements, so a major system change lands in the budget year you chose for it. HVAC, Plumbing, and Controls Under One ContractorTony covers all three. One contractor, one point of accountability, instead of coordinating separate trades and refereeing between them when a problem sits at the seam. Completed work can also transition into a Campbell maintenance agreement, where covered repairs on the systems Campbell maintains fall to Campbell under the Lifetime Guarantee. Commercial HVAC and Plumbing Project Sales in ClevelandTony serves commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities throughout the Cleveland region: data centers, healthcare, laboratories, manufacturing and OEM, food processing and cold storage, schools, government and municipal buildings, and multi-site property portfolios. Behind him stands Campbell’s 58 years of regional expertise, roughly 60 field technicians, and 24/7/365 emergency response. Schedule a Site Assessment for Your Cleveland FacilityIf you have a system approaching the end of its life, a retrofit you are trying to budget, or a recurring problem you suspect is bigger than a repair, Tony will walk the facility with you and give you a straight read on what he finds.
